BLUR ALERT: A music video for 'Under the Westway' has been released on the 6th July. It features the band in the studio, recording their newest, ballad-esque single, complete with Damon's soothing vocals and piano chords.
But the question we are all asking is - can Blur reach and break into the charts for Top 20 singles? The momentum of this track gave it very positive reviews by listeners so far. The single's chart position on the first day of release was also great, topping at Number 1 in the iTunes Top Rock songs.
Recently it hit Number 6 on the iTunes Italy rock chart, and Number 8 on the Norwegian rock chart. As for Blur's biggest challenge, they seem to have done well initially: 'Under the Westway' peaked in at Number 4 last Tuesday on the top rock singles charts, but have now dropped down to 40.
'The Puritan' also went to Number 3 on it's first day of release, but soon dropped out of the charts. As of right now, the two tracks doesn't seem to be moving up. Perhaps it really really really could happen. Help push Blur to the top of the charts bydownloading the tracks from iTunes. You can also order them on Amazon.com

So, it looks like Blur are back, ready for the Olympics gig and better than ever! The rainy weather and rush-hour timing of the rooftop gig on July 2nd 2012, combined with the fact that the location was not known until a few hours before the show, meant that only few fans were able to travel to the destination to witness Blur's show.
But do not fear- for the fans who have missed the live performances by Blur (July 2nd 2012), footage have been released by Blur's official Youtube channel (click here to subscribe) recorded exclusively on the venue.
The two must-watch videos of the month - footage of Blur premiering their newest single 'Under the Westway / The Puritan' live on the roof of their West London studio.
The track will be released as a limited edition 7-inch vinyl, which you can order HERE.

And finally, the wait is over! Blur premiered their new tracks 'Under the Westway' and 'The Puritan' live on top of their West London Studio on Latimer Road, London on July 2nd 2012. This location was of course chosen, as it is literally, under the Westway.
A live twitter video was broadcasted on the official Blur website for all fans to watch. Some of the band also had short interviews with BBC Radio shortly before the host played the studio version of the new songs to the world.
The two songs are the only material Blur released since their 2009 single 'Fool's Day', and both new songs were met with very positive reviews.
The band performed 'Under the Westway' live first, with cheering fans watching eagerly below on the ground. The track is grand, elegant and sounds extremely like something from the early Blur days. It boasts an animated music video featuring moving lyrics, and also a very Beatles-esque touch.
There was an hour's break in between the first and second song. Blur took this opportunity to stage a twitter question & answer session, where fans could tweet questions to the band's members. Questions included one by us at BlurBalls - "Damon - what colour are your shoes today?", in which the reply from Alex James was "Red". Very informative indeed.
'The Puritan',a cheery track with a poppy sound and fast drums, was next. The weather was rainy and cloudy in London, but that did not stop the catchy song from radiating through to the crowd. The lyrics for this track is on par with Blur's earlier singles, and the song definitely has the "new sound" that Damon mentioned earlier in Blur interviews.
Could this possibly be a new direction for Blur? Could 'The Puritan''s sound become something prevalent in the next Blur project? Will there even be new Blur material in the future? These are questions that the band did not answer.
It seems though, according to Alex James and Damon Albarn (who did interviews on BBC Radio 6 and BBC Radio 1 respectively on July 2nd 2012), options are being kept open. Everyone's keeping an open mind about the great band's future.
Stay tuned for reviews of the tracks exclusively by BlurBalls.

BLUR NEWS: Exciting news - Damon Albarn premiered another new Blur song called "The Puritan" just a few days ago in one of his recent live shows. The title was only known from an article fromThe Standard.
“This is the new Blur single called The Puritan and it has never been performed live before,” said Albarn, which he then did, beatnik-style, with just a guitar and a glass of champagne.
The rare footage (scroll down to watch) is recorded by a fan- the song was performed right after a few other Dr Dee songs. Damon began by teasing the audience, then proceeded to strum an acoustic version of what we think has huge potential to be a full blown Blur song.
We at BlurBalls isolated the audio from the footage (credits to MinlMinlmovie) and you can listen to it below. For those of you who regularly visit Youtube, make sure to subscribe to BlurBall's Channel for the coolest, latest videos!
The new song sounds very much like a tune right out of Modern Life is Rubbish! Perhaps this track will be featured in Blur's massive July box set. Us fans have good reason to sing along with Damon - La La La indeed.

Blur has gone back to their old ways, old days and old looks - Graham Coxon sported a Leisure-esque hair cut with a thick mop of hair, and Damon Albarn wore a parklife-esque zip up, complete with stripes, and was clean-shaven and clean-cut, and stepped on stage way over scheduled time (due to 35 minute delays) and sang.
These two musicians, only one half of Blur, looked the part -the seemed like they were ready to perform and give us some tunes from the Britpop era, or at least, their signature songs about all things British, London and little Britain.
The piano was rolled in, and Graham's guitar was checked several times. Then the two appeared on stage and said a few words; Damon was at his piano, and Graham stood in the center of the stage, where he and Damon exchanged looks, smiled at each other and began. All throughout the performances, smiles were exchanged, and the two seemed to really have renewed their friendship after a long time hiatus.
Alex James watched from the balcony above, hidden in the blue hazy spotlights and the generally dim seating area. The atmosphere was great, but hushed, somehow it seems like we're all waiting for something to happen.
The "War Child" sign shone at the background. Damon and Graham sang, with Damon doing the leads, and Graham doing backups. Some of the tunes sounded a little off, but for the most part, it was enjoyable purely because of the two presence on stage. There was a moment when Graham's voice slipped and he played a wrong chord - but then everything went smoothly afterwards.
We filmed all 3 songs that they performed on stage - they were on there a mere 15 minutes or so, and performed 3 acoustic songs, one of them a brand new track called "Under the Westway". The track is melodic, with no bass and drums it sounds almost like a ballad. Fans cheered and Damon sang.
Shortly after their third and final song - the new track "Under the Westway", Damon and Graham cleared the stage fast - ran and scooted away. Fans shouted "Encore" but soon it was time for the next act. They left the stage like a bullet speeding away.
Overall: 3.5 / 5 stars - for the short performance time but kudos for the new track.

Blur's Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon has debuted their new song "Under the Westway" at the War Child Charity Gig just an hour ago, 19th February 2012. The song was written "a few weeks ago". You can listen below to this acoustic number, filmed by Blurballs live at the stage:
We've filmed the video and it also cut it so its just audio. It will be up shortly. Watch and share the FULL LIVE PERFORMANCE!
The song's very similar to Fool's Day in style, and the main topic is the scenery whilst travelling back under the Westway in London, probably inspired by Damon's travels to and fro the city. He sings about the skies, the clouds, and the colours, and talks about the pollution and his feelings to a special somebody.
"It's got a lot of words, not as many as Ed Sheeran" said Damon Albarn, "It's got a lot of words. I'll try to remember all of them", as he smiled at Coxon from across the piano.
Graham and Damon performed 3 songs in total for the Pre-Brits gig - Graham looked like something out of Leisure, with his big uncut hair, and Damon was clean shaven and clean-cut, wearing a parklife-esque zip up. The setlist are as follows:
1) He Thought of Cars (The Great Escape)
2) Strange News from Another Star (from Blur)
3) Under the Westway - New song!
Blur recently revealed they will be working on a new album, enlisting William Orbit (who produced their 1999 album "13") on board. The War Child gig only featured the guitarist and the singer, but not Alex James (bassist) or Dave Rowntree (drummer).
Blur will perform live again in the Brit Awards 2012 - stay tuned for that!
It was a great gig, full of promise for something new from the Britpop mega-band. Blur have a long-standing relationship with Warchild, contributing the track Eine Kleine Lift Musik to the charity’s legendary 1993 album Help.
A special shout out to Katie and Hannah and their awesome dad for dropping me off after the exciting night of music, exchanges, sprints, chases and close encounters (wink wink).
